Eating local: Is it really that much more expensive?

If you have been outside the United States and visited a local market, do you remember what fruits and vegetables tasted like? Or maybe you don’t need to go outside the country… just go to your local farmers market, the ones that pop on a church parking lot.
You’ll see that fruits and veggies are all uneven sizes, juicy, colorful and so tasty. They have imperfections and don’t look “magazine-like” like the fruits and vegetables you see at the big stores.
Would you share my opinion when I say that most fruits and veggies at the big box stores don’t taste much at all. They tend to be all big, all looking alike and of pale colours and little taste. My parents used to complain all the time about this and I didn’t understand them until a few months ago.
My friend and me went to local farm and from then on, our vision of food has changed. This farm is outside town and, although they use a lot of traditional farming techniques, they are high-tech, and not entirely organic because they still use some pesticides; but here a difference… they only use natural, non-chemical pesticides. Let me tell ya, the taste, has nothing to do with what you buy in big stores.
Here’s another fun fact: when you buy local, seasonal, non-treated fruits and veggies, the nutritious value of your produce is enhanced by quite a lot. In other words, it means is that you need to eat a heck lot less because it is much more nutritious!!Now that’s great news for 2 reasons: for one, budget-wise and two, calorie-wise!!
Another way you are saving money by going with a local farm is that you’re avoiding big surface stores, where usually we all tend to buy things we didn’t even come in to buy in the first place. Big stores are designed to make you walk around a lot so you can shop a lot!
It is much easier to solely buy what you need when it is done online and you don’t have any ‘tasty, smelly diversions’. Once again, a bargain!
Now the last major factor about buying mostly organic, local foods is that your health will most likely dramatically improve; without you doing much even. From my experience, (and I’m sure you’ll agree with me) health has no price.
When you’re healthy, you have awesome vibrant energy and clearer thoughts and emotions: what would you do with your life then..?
