Healthy Parents Have Happier Holiday Seasons!

Every year people are moving at such a fast pace during the holidays and tend forget a few common measures to prevent illnesses during the most wonderful time of the year. Parents are not immune to this common mistake. Follow these tips to keep yourself as healthy as possible during this holiday season! Remember, parents can’t give their best if they aren’t feeling their best!

Prevent germs by wiping down surfaces and carrying extra forms of sanitation, like antibacterial hand soap and wipes. Also, don’t touch your face, especially your eyes, mouth and nose. If you must, always do it after washing your hands.

Add vitamins to your daily routine. Vitamins A, B, B12, C and D are among the most common vitamin deficiencies during the winter months. Talk to your medical professional to see what you should add to your regular daily multi-vitamin. Also, don’t forget about eating a balanced diet to give your body all the nutrients it needs to stay healthy.

Practice healthy nutrition. Know what foods help you feel and do your best, then focus more on giving your body what it needs. During the winter months it’s important to increase your protein and fiber while maintaining a balanced portion of healthful fats in your diet.

Keep it moving. Physical activity is the clearest step you can take to benefit your health during the holidays and any time of year. There are plenty of home healthcare supplies that can double as exercise outlets if you are short on time or on a budget!

Get adequate sleep each night! Sleep is crucial for caregivers throughout the entire year, but during the winter it’s an absolute necessity. Try to get at least 7 hours of sleep every night. Go to bed at the same time every night and get up in morning at the same time. This helps your body to create a constant circadian routine.

Also pace yourself when it comes to all the activities of the season. All the shopping, the visiting, the doing this and that… it can be quite exhausting. So take some time to slow down and enjoy the season.

Relaxation is non-negotiable! Take a moment each day to relax, even meditation. When you’re mind is in a good space, your body follows suit!
