5 Tips to Help Heal a Sick Kid
We have all been there – a sick kid! It’s the worst! They are sick, so all they want is you. If it’s a bad one, I could have a child stuck to me for several days. With a hectic work schedule, this makes things very difficult.
I have to take time off of work to stay home with them. And if I do, I run the risk of getting sick as well. Which means more time off of work! Anytime my children gets sick I go into overdrive!
I want them better as soon as possible. Because it is no fun seeing you little ones look up at you asking you to make it better and you don’t know what to do. So here are my top tips to get that little one better and driving you crazy again.
Water! – It works like a charm. Pumping my kids full of this liquid gold while sick will flush their system. It encourages her body to dump whatever is ailing her. I know what you are going to say, My kid hates water! But here is the trick, add something to it that they are interested in.
Add their favorite fruit to the water in a pretty glass. Add some watermelon chunks to the water. Even have you child help make the water. This will get them interested in drinking it. Since your child is sick, they more than likely will not be downing the water. But make sure they are slowly sipping it throughout the day.
Diffuse oils – I keep a diffuser upstairs and downstairs. Anytime someone gets sick I diffuse Thieves oil from Young Living. This oil helps support the immune system. So this helps ensure that no one else in the family gets sick and gently helps my little one get better faster. In my experience, this has really helped.
Clean – This is not my favorite thing to do. When anyone gets sick in the family I start to clean the house. I do this so germs don’t spread and the rest of us stay healthy. This is also important for the sick person too. When my kid gets sick I clean and disinfect her room. I really focus on surfaces like the door knob, dresser, and even parts of the walls that she touches a lot.
Rest! – I know they don’t want to do it, but they have to rest. Our bodies heal when we sleep. I know they don’t like taking naps, but since they are sick and weak you won’t have too much resistance on this one. Initially, they will fight, but spend some time reassuring them as they try to rest. Even hold them if you have to.
Vitamin C – This is the fun tip because it is easy to do. Give them orange juice! What kid doesn’t like orange juice, right? Cherry juice is also high in vitamin C. My kids love cherry juice more than orange. Vitamin C is the holy grail for fighting a cold. Vitamin C will help kick the cold faster.
